WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THE LAKE...

1-23-12 Our daughter Katie was admitted to medical school in Denver today!  Yippee!!!!  Way to go Katie we are so proud of you.

1-22-12 Eric is finally driving his pickup on the lake.  Of course he had my car out there today too.  (No ice augers allowed in my car!)

1-10-12  The ice is still good to go despite the 49 degree weather today.  Eric has all 5 ice houses ready to go out on the ice for this weekend.  The fishing has been great.

Nicholas had a blast cleaning the fish he caught.

1-1-2012  Eric is out ice fishing after spending the weekend helping guests I guess he caught the fever.  He will soon have his pan fish limits!  The ice is 8" thick and 4 wheelers, walking or snowmobile are the transportation modes for a few more days.

We had a wonderful New Years Eve at the lake.  Many wonderful families spent the weekend at the lake with us.

The lodges log siding is completely done and we are mudding and taping the interior. Only 1 more bathroom to hook up but lots of sheetrock to finish.

10-15-2011 Just got these words from a great friend.

"In matters of style, go with the current,

but in matters of principle, stand like a rock."

- Thomas Jefferson

Show me your friends and I will show you your future.

Thank you Mike!

10-15-2011  Beautiful day at the lake.  Lodge log siding is 7/8th done.  Matt says it looks like a log barracks.  Yes we are putting the entry on, but at this point I am glad the siding is getting done.
As I am spending the day indoors getting bookwork caught up and I am seeing lots of familiar names and am already longing for next summer when we get to see the majority of our lake family.
Eric has the ice houses pulled out, but will of course wait to get them ready later when the snow is flying.  Thank goodness for the garage this year!!!!!

Quoting a few lines from a book I just listened to: "The Ultimate Gift"

The Gift of Work
He who loves his work never labors.
- Jim Stovall

The Gifts of Friends
It is a wealthy person, indeed,
who calculates riches not in gold
but in friends.

The Gift of Family
Some people are born into wonderful families.
Others have to find or create them.
Being a member of a family is a priceless membership
that we pay nothing for but love.

The Gift of Dreams
Faith is all that dreamers need
to see into the future.

The Gift of Gratitude
In those times we yearn to have more in our lives,
we should dwell on the things we already have.
In doing so, we will often find that our lives
are already full to overflowing.

The Gift of Learning
Education is a lifelong journey
whose destination expands as you travel.

A Voice from the Past
In the end,
a person is only known
by the impact they have on others.

The Gift of Money
Money is nothing more than a tool.
It can be a force for good, a force for evil,
or simply idle.

The Gift of Problems
Problems may only be avoided by exercising good judgment.
Good judgment may only be gained
by experiencing life's problems.

The Gift of Laughter
Laughter is good medicine for the soul.
Our world is desperately in need of more medicine.

The Gift of Giving
The only way you can truly get more out of life for yourself
is to give part of yourself away.

The Gift of a Day
Life at its essence boils down to one day at a time.
Today is the day!

The Ultimate Gift
In the end, life lived to its fullest
is its own Ultimate Gift

I can see myself and the resort relating to each of these.  What a bunch of words to ponder.......
I listened to this while I was sanding the log siding last week and I keep coming back to it.  Yes I know.......last book I actually read was Harry Potter 2 years ago.

9-19-2011 It has been way too long since I let you know what is going on at the lake.  This summer I posted lots of pictures to the Westridge Shores Resort Facebook page. Find the pictures at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Westridge-Shores-Resort/106235572775924

The cool evenings have definitely set in but today was beautiful.  We have been busy with guests taking advantage of the great fall weather and rates.  We are planning on leaving in 5 lifts until the end of September for those fall fishermen.

6-4-2011  Okay so if you don't already know it I LOVE what I do everyday.  Except bookkeeping.  Today the weather was amazing and I have been busy for the last 15 hours, but the day went way too fast.

The fish are really biting!  It has been a blast watching all the stringers come up the dock; lots of smiles too.

Just ordered the pizza for cooks night off.  Dominoes loves us.  I am actually looking forward to pizza tomorrow night.  Yes by Labor Day I will be tired of pizza, but it is a new summer.

5-6-11  New pontoon furniture for the 25hp boat has arrived.  Wow I have managed to make a mess.  Boxes, old benches and chairs all over the place.  At the end of the day I fell into bed exhausted.  This spring training is great for working up endurance!!

Zach had a short Mothers Day program today at preschool.  So cute.  Our baby is the tallest in his class and is on his way to the 6'4" of his older brothers.  All the boys will be home sometime this evening to help put all the lifts in tomorrow.

We did get a new hydraulic lift for those of you who wanted to give the wheel a chuck.  Eric is having it made for pontoons or medium to large size boats.  It is run by electricity and 2 buttons!

My brother Eric and my husband Eric are still out framing away.  What was I thinking; a 5000 sq ft lodge is a big building.  The log siding has arrived.  Now to decide how to finish it.  Seal it or oil it??????

5-4-11  It is a nice day out; finally.  Eric is working like crazy to finish framing the new studio so the plumbing and electric can get done next week.  I just finished residing the back of cabin 2.  A small leaf fire got away in the wind last fall and melted the siding.  The loons are watching all that we are doing and calling to us all day long.  And we call them loons; I think they call Eric and I loony!

4-12-11 Spring cleaning is underway.  The lake is starting to show us small bits of open water.  We need the sun to turn up the BTU's.

Walls for the main floor of the lodge are now locked in as the plumbing is going in under the concrete.  We hope to pour concrete next week.  I wonder what I forgot.  I am sure I will remember after I can't change it.

The grass is green today after the rain on Sunday.  The flowers are starting to poke out.  Spring is finally here.

3-22-11 First electric inspection passed.  Lots of decisions to be made regarding the new lodge.

1-13-11 All the ice houses are out on the lake.  Eric has created a great road to get to the houses.  The fish are biting.  90 second wait to catch the first crappie this evening!

1-12-11

Lodge Progress

The new lodge is enclosed and we are working on the inside.  Windows and doors will come soon.

1-11-11

All 5 ice houses are going back out to the lake today and tomorrow.  The crappies are biting in Little Mary.  Eric is blowing the snow out on the lake as the big v plows keep piling it up in the middle of the ice road.  These 2 ice castles are getting new stereos installed before they go out again.  (I-pod/mp3 play ready stereos!)  It is quite the parade of winter vehicles around here.

1-5-11 I used the new garage door opener today!  I haven't opened a garage door for years........
Eric, Matt and Nick are finishing up the insulation so framing of the interior walls will be next. (I had better make sure where I want them to go. Eric doesn't like moving them after he has them up.)

We bought Road Dog ice house skis last night.  There is allot of snow on the lake and the ice houses don't like it so now they are going to get to go skiing.  Great for snowmobiles; bad for Eric.

Our guests from Oklahoma and Nebraska have left and survived a Minnesota snow storm.  The interstate from Alex to Fargo was closed for 3 days; good thing they had to go south.  What an experience for folks from a bit of a warmer climate.  I was tempted to jump in the trunk and hitch a ride south.

I have been playing with the new tools for scrap bookers and jewelry makers.  You are all going to have lots of fun with the new Flex Shaft and Cricut.

12-28-10 Ice houses are out on the lake.  14" of ice.  The bite is suppose to be good.  No first hand experience yet.

Today we ordered the new pontoon for next year.  Now we will have 4 to pick from.

The floor trusses for the 2nd floor are almost complete on the new building.  The roof, soffit, facia are done!  The county tax assessor has been out already; surprise surprise.

12-7-10 The roof is going on the new building today!
We will be adding a Cricut expression to the tools available in the studio this year.   Scrap bookers let me know what else will help you out.

11-23-10 It is starting to take shape.

11-22-10 The new studio/office/garage/tool shed/guest laundry/store/office/summer home/resort laundry/anything else I forgot building started getting framed up today!

10-24-10 We just joined the crowd.  I created a Facebook page for the resort.  Check out the link on our home page.  My daughter also just found an "I Love Westridge Shores Resort" group on Facebook (thank you Pam and Maria).

10-21-10  The guys are going to kill me.  50% off at the local nursery.  I brought home more trees and shrubs.  We decided to work hard on the landscaping but this time I might be in trouble.  We only have 1 or 2 days to plant before the rain comes arrives.

10-20-10 Time to winterize some of the cabins.  Thank goodness for the nice October.
Eric and Matt have been busy preparing the site for the new post frame office/studio that will go up in November.  We have a whole new collection of big rocks found during the digging.  I am imagining all kinds of neat ways to use them.

10-18-10 Thanks for the neat photo!

Tie Dye shirts drying on the deck railing

9-30-10 The walleyes are biting!  We broke ground on the new studio/office/Eric's garage/summer home building today.

7-28-10 Best ball golf tourney was great fun this morning.  23 participants and a case of beverages for the winners.

The storms have missed us again.  We continue to be blessed with a weekly dose of moisture but the really bad stuff went north of us again.

7-16-10 Computer crash!  I finally have a reasonable version of a pc back again.  Wow has a lot happened in the last few weeks.

Last night we had our first ever bean bag toss tourney.  We all had lots of fun!

5-31-10

Eric "caught" Calculus???Trying to take a break from school.  That is dedication.  This senior in HS studied while he fished!

Nice batch of walleyes caught this afternoon. 5-16-10  They are out looking for a few more right now.

5-16-10 I don't think we have ever had such a nice fishing opener.  We are planting new flowers and shrubs, dividing up old flowers, mulching, finishing outdoor details and watching the fish come in.  The report is 16' of water for those nice 16 to 18" walleyes.  We have a boat with nearly a limit of keepers already.

Zachary is happy to see some of his friends coming back.  At 4 and a half now he remembers all the friends from last year and is excited for everyone to visit again this year.

We will see all of you soon!

4-29-10  Eric and I have great news.  We have asked our oldest son; who graduated from SMSU with a business administration and marketing degree to join us at the resort.  Matthew will join us full time on July 1 of this year.  We are excited about what we will be able to offer with this talented young man around.  He has been working for the past 2 years with US Bank and is excited to get out from behind the desk and meet all of you.  Matthew played football for SMSU and loves basketball so don't let him trick you into a game of horse unless you get a handicap from him first.

4-26-10   Yes I know that we are going to have Walleye opener soon.  Eric and I found a great 8' x 16' new Ice Castle ice fishing house yesterday.  You all keep telling my you want a big one; well here it is.  One more toy to add to the ice fishing attack.

4-21-10   Those of you who have been here before know how much we enjoy the loon calls.  Tonight they are having a party out there. It is still warm outside and the loons are loving it as much as we are.

All the new beds arrived today; just a little workout moving them around the resort. (All pillow top beds and top of the line!)

Zebra mussels are becoming a worry in Minnesota.  Lake Mary doesn't have any zebra mussels and we want to keep it that way so we be asking all of you to drain your boats completely (bilge, motor, transom wells and live well) and either keep them out of the water for 5 days or high pressure wash your boat.  Also please don't bring water from other lakes in your minnow bucket.  We love our soft sand and great fishing; lets keep it that way.

4-17-10 In the spirit of tradition Melissa was down the slide first this year.  She is passing the torch off to Zachary and took him down the slide.  He was only too happy to jump in an go swimming!

First Kids down the slide in 2010!

4-5-10  The ice is off the entire lake as of Friday April 2nd.  We should have an excellent fishing opener!  Now that the ice is off we are starting to think about ice fishing next year.  We are going to offer ice house rental for only $40/day to our guests for the 2010-2011 ice fishing season.  Cabin prices will stay the same!.

4-1-10 This is no April fools... the ice is completely off little Mary and we hope to see the big lake completely clear in a couple days.  The new internet system is in and is really amazing.  My brother came up and helped Eric with some finishing work today on cabin 8.  Thank you!

Everything is looking great.  The yard got raked today; David had a great time burning the leaves (my little pyro).  Cabin 7 got new varnish on all the woodwork and a fresh coat of paint inside.

Tonight we took Zach to see "How to Train Your Dragon"  he loved it.  The dinosaur loving boy has moved onto dragons the last few months; be ready to see dragons flying around here this summer or at least in a 4 year olds imagination.

We unpacked 2 pallets of new stuff for the studio today.  It is full of boxes; what a mess!

3-31-10 The ice is breaking up and moving around!!!!!  The cabin is getting flooring and the cabinets get delivered today.

The new super duper internet system gets installed next week.  It is so fast!  I'm using that part now.  The connection should reach down to the water.  Fishing and checking email!

2-25-10 The pine interior of new cabin 8 is almost ready for varnish!  Yeah!  Cabin 8 is looking awesome.  Eric has really put in the extra tlc and created an awesome cabin.  It smells so good with all the new wood.

The ice houses are will be off the ice Sunday.  We are looking for an little earlier ice off this year as the ice isn't quite as thick as usual. I will let you know when we see the last of the ice.

2-8-10 Blizzard here!  Everything is closed. The trails are going to be fun but cleaning out the road to the ice houses is going to be a challenge.  3 more weekends of ice fishing then the houses come off for the year.  I'm afraid half of tomorrow will be spent cleaning up snow.

1-19-10 Ice fishing has been picking up since it warmed up.  The crappies and sunnies are requiring some active jigging to get there attention.  The snowmobile trails are beautiful!  Now if the kids would keep from breaking our sleds maybe I could sneak away from the plumbing long enough to take a ride.

Eric and I just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary and the sweet guy filled the house with flowers.  Just as I was about to complain about the cost he told me he got a great deal.  So I let it go and am feeling pretty special!  Now if I could get him to pick up his dirty socks!

1-9-10 Wow has it been cold.  The warm up is due tomorrow.  The camera is showing all kinds of fish under the ice houses. Only need to get them to bite more.

12-29-09 The ice houses are out and we are driving on the lake.  Andes Tower Hills has all the ski hills in great shape!  Katie was over to the ski hill today and spent the afternoon downhill skiing with college friends.  We are able to offer great ticket rates to our guest again this year.

The snowmobile trails have been groomed and I even went for a ride on Christmas afternoon. (fresh air!)  We are seeing northern, crappies, perch and sunfish in little Mary.
Over Christmas we were lucky to meet 2 Navy families.  The brave souls traveled from Georgia and Washington to have a Minnesota Christmas; Eric and I love that we are able to host families from all over the country and meet such great families.

12-15-09  Very cold out but great ice making weather.  We expect the big ice houses to be able to go out in a couple days.  I'm firing the glass kiln in the studio tonight.  The extra heat is very welcome.  We have had 2 big groups in the studio this week doing ceramics. Thanks to everyone for getting those deposits in on time.  (You know how much I "love" bookwork.  It is easier to do it all at one time.)

12-10-09  The ice is getting thick.  We expect to be able to ice fish this weekend.  Eric has been working on upgrading a couple of the ice houses.  New bells and whistles but no extra cost.  As I write it is 7 below zero; great weather for making ice but too cold for me.  It is an office day today.  I'm having all the fun of restoring data on my pc.  Major crash on a 4 month old pc.  Yes the data was backed up but it still has to be reinstalled and reloaded; yuck!

11-10-09  The warm weather has allowed us to finish off the leaf cleanup.  There is still one tree to drop leaves but the rest have been burned.  Zach thought it was fun to walk through the piles as we raked them; he was soon redirected to another fun activity.  The first PMC (silver playdoh) pieces have been made and fired.  This is going to be a very neat addition to the studio projects.
I saw a few new ideas on the Disney Magic cruise that we took for vacation.  Zach participated in their kid program and I came home with a couple new ideas for next summer.
We are so glad to be home and back to work on projects at the resort.  It was a nice warm short get away but I love it here at the resort!!!!

10-30-09 Ice fishing reservations are starting to come in...we will keep you updated as to the current ice status and the quality of the fishing.  We are planning a new years party family style this year;  I'm going to work on lots of fun ideas for cold weather.

Yes; we are having a lot of fun on vacation!!!!

Fun at Cocoa Beach

10-4-098 The walls are going up on the new cabin 8.

Zachary is digging the basement.

8-21-09 First Fish!!!! Sunfish'in with Daddy.

8-10-09 Okay this is the life!  Zach finally agreed to float on the water.  After a short while he wouldn't leave the sand bar.  We had an awesome time with our friends from Colorado.  Hopefully we will see them soon.

Yes Jordan you are going to get wet.  Go Joe!

8-7-09 Mary E. sent up this picture of the Loon family that we have been watching all summer.  The babies are starting to learn how to dive and swim under water now.  We still see the family every morning and every evening in front of the resort.

Lake Mary's Loons

7-29-09 Cheryl caught this monster on 4 pound line.  The crappies have been biting on the minnows left over from the minnow races.  (Maybe the top prize should be the minnows.)

The new anchors arrived today for the 115hp 24ft pontoon.  We will attempt to not leave these in the bottom of the lake this time.  Tomorrow lava soap goes in the fish cleaning house!!!!!!  (Man soap) Keep the input coming, I love it.

The Loon Lodge (cabin 7) has got even more new decor being added.  I went to art in the park and found some awesome loon photos with babies.  The loon babies that are by the resort daily are getting so big.  The parents are trying to teach the babies to dive for fish.  The are calling out a lot, do you think that the babies are in trouble?
Cheryl's big Northern

7-27-09 The permits for the new projects have come in the mail.  Keep watching for the plans for the new cabins!!!!!!!!  We will have a 5 bedroom cabin for 2010. (The cabin will hold up to 20 people and is over 2200 sq ft.)

7-26-09 Matthew is 24 and chose to spend time celebrating with us at the lake.  We are so glad to have Matt and Whitney here at the lake.  Thanks for all the help this weekend too!  Around here birthday or not if you are home you get put to work; no lack of projects.  Matt, Nick, Collin, Whitney, Eric and I have put in several hours working on our toddler beach.  It is really shaping up now.  Lets hope for some hot weather now.
7Matthew's 24th birthday - wow am I getting old. Can't believe that my oldest son is 24.

7-22-03  Eric and I took the evening off.  (Thank you auntie Holli for watching Zach!)  We went for a supper trail ride at Silver Sage.  We had a blast!  The owners were great and the food was awesome.  Take a look at their web site.  You can ask for a private ride and really get to ride a really great horse.

Great horses! We had a super time at Silver Sage.

7-13-09  We had our first ever outdoor big screen movie.  What a blast!  Thanks Ethan and Kim!!!
Nicholas' big NorthernNicholas caught this monster northern all by himself.  No help from Dad.

David is getting pretty good at wakeboarding.Wakeboarding!!!!!

7-11-09 Smores are awesome.  And good friends are even better!
 DSCN0273.jpg (237417 bytes)DSCN0251.jpg (135404 bytes)

7-8-09 What an awesome week at the lake.  Lizzy and Leonard our pet rock friends made an appearance.  They even joined us for smores and a bonfire.  The play equipment got an addition this week!  Eric and I added the main section of a new bridge and a 2 story playhouse.  David was even seen using tools!!!  We made playhouse out of cedar and had a bonfire with the scrap wood.  Wow did that smell good!
 0707091924.jpg (451571 bytes)Smores for everyone.....Careful for the walking creatures.
When at the resort beware of the walking blowup creatures!

Even more new ceramics have arrived and more fun glass projects.  We have been working on wine bottle stoppers, bracelets, pendants, trivets, window art (sun catchers) and night lights.  The 22kt gold decals and lots of new choices of dicroic glass have added lots more options.

Eric picked me up another pallet of cedar mulch.  6 bags went down today.  The flowers and landscaping are improving slow but sure.

6-23-09 Melissa is officially in New York working at the children's camp.  She used her experience practicing here to get the job.  I had to hire 3 people to replace her.  I'm getting her birthday box ready to mail.

6-19-09  The new glass fusing supplies have arrived.  4 boxes of goodies.  I'm excited to play with the new toys.  I know that D.S. and crew are going to have fun next week.

6-18-09 What can you do from the fishing pier???

King of the Swim Raft!Fishin' with Grandpa

6-17-09 The walleyes are starting to group up for a really good bite.  All the fishermen seem to be happy.  Thank goodness for the fog this morning; complaining about the weather is always in style.

We have mastered the spiral tie dye.  Okay it is a lot of fun too.  The bracelets, ceramics and glass fusing pieces coming out of the studio haven't been too shabby either.

Showing off the tie dye projectsMinnow Races can be competiveA little friendly teatherball anyone!!!!!!

Michael O. caught a crappie last week bigger than the top of a 5 gallon pail.  That was one big fish.  The Oleson family can catch anything on Lake Mary and make it look easy any time of the year.   He was going to email a picture.  Let's see if he reads this and the picture arrives.  Love you Michael. Michael must have been reading.  Here is the much awaited picture.

Micheal O and a very big crappie!

6-11-09 Lady slippers, the Minnesota state flower, is blooming in the Alexandria area.

6-8-09  Baby Gavin has arrived.  He turned 1 month old during his first stay on Lake Mary.  Zachary thinks babies rock!

Zachary loves baby Gavin

6-6-09 Abigail caught her first walleye.  Aren't you suppose to kiss your first one????

Abby's first walleyeThat is one big BASS!

6-3-09 Today we took delivery of the new pontoon.  We decided to upgrade the motor to a 115 hp.  Eric is out right now working on the motor break in.  The walleyes, bass, northern, crappies and sunfish are all biting.  The fish cleaning house has been keeping very busy.  It might be time for me to get out and try my luck soon.

5-29-09 Just picked up 2 new Schwinn Cruiser adult bicycles.  Red and white.  I rode around the yard and remembered the days of my first bicycle that also had coaster brakes.  Good thing they left the banana seat back in the 70's.

5-28-09 Wow what a day! More new furniture arrived, the permit for the swim raft came through so into town I go to pick up the new swim raft, fish fry for the boys from Iowa, (wish you were here too Don H.), and last but not least we also bought a new 24 foot pontoon with a 50 hp Yamaha 4 stroke.  Eric is out fishing right now with the best local guide ever, testing out a hot spot.

5-26-09 All those last minute upgrades are getting finished before everyone arrives on Friday.  #7 just got a new vent system and a new stove today.  Tomorrow cabin 8 gets attacked!  I applied for the permit for a new swimming raft today.  If it is approved we will have a new, large swim raft by the time the water is warm.

5-24-09

5-22-09 The place is blooming! Literally....  All the bulbs I planted are in full bloom.  What a treat if you are here for Memorial weekend.

5-21-09 The lake has warmed up and the wind has stopped blowing.  The walleyes are biting.  We are looking forward to amazing weather for Memorial wknd.

5-12-09 Lots of new pillow top king and queen beds arrived today.  New quilts, new 310 count sheets, new Egyptian cotton mattress pads.  Somebody should sleep good. (I know that I will tonight; big day I'm exhausted.  Oh yeah Eric actually put all the beds together, but I did the ironing.)

5-11-09 We just got alerted to the fact that a new little fisherman has arrived and will be ready to fish in June!
Congratulations Brent and Suzie!

G. Fisherman Miller

5-10-09  What a wonderful mothers day.  I spent all day outside in the flower beds.  The hyacinths are blooming, the daffodils are starting and the some of the tulips are poking out heads.  The dandelions are sure to make an appearance soon too!  Never fear I also am planting the tomato plants so we can all have fresh picked later in the summer.  The first early girl tomato plant went in under Camper Bob's watchful eye; he will be sure to eat the first ripe one and tell us when the rest are ready.  I hope all of you also enjoyed the day!  Happy Mothers Day

5-6-09 The new well with a super upgraded computerized pump is going in today.  Hope you all love the awesome water pressure we are going to have.

Just checked the pressure it is holding steady at 60 pounds and endless quantities!!!! Yeah.  Now we are off to fix the mess in the yard.

Digging in the new water line to the well.

5-5-09 The new sand is here and Zachary couldn't wait to try it out.
